Seattle has a lot of good restaurants with more opening each day. So hearing about another must-try restaurant can be kind of overwhelming. But we promise this one is really worth checking out. Because it was just named an American Classic by the James Beard Foundation. Welcome to Oriental Mart, your next foodie destination.

This Seattle classic and now American Classic has been a Pike Place Market staple since 1971. It’s probably older than you are. Anyways, with the way Seattle has developed and its rapid rate of growth, it’s hard to imagine a restaurant lasting for 5 years let alone nearly 50. So clearly, Oriental Mart is doing something right.

You may have heard of its cheeky signage ‘We don’t have a ‘menu’ ’cus I cook what I want’ which gives you the vibes of real authenticity. And we love that. It’s cook Leila Rosas serves up homestyle Filipino food, think pork adobo and salmon sinigang soup. As you may have guessed its really tasty.

As if you needed any more convincing, Oriental Mart is one of 6 restaurants in the US to snag this award in 2020. Plus the weather is getting nice and the sun is out so it’s getting time to head towards Pike Place. But hey, before you head out the door, O Mart will be closed until April 1st as Leila is currently in the Philippines.

We’ll see you at O Mart in April!
