A free yoga class

Luckily for Vancouverites, Lululemon Canada is coming in hot this season with a series of free outdoor yoga classes on the Lonsdale Pier in North Van. Honestly, a sweaty session of yoga under the sun is the ultimate stress release. Thankfully, piers usually come with a little ocean breeze to cool you down – we know we’d need it.

When: Now until August 31st
Where: Lonsdale Pier, North Vancouver
Cost: Free with registration! Click the link above for more info

A clothing-optional beach

Why not skip the bikini and go straight to your birthday suit? The good thing about nude beaches around Vancouver is that you can always layer up/layer down to your comfort level – and there will be no judgment either way. Cool off in the ocean and get rid of those pesky tan lines.

The Arbutus Greenway

The landmark Greenway is a hit with bikers and pedestrians alike on their daily commute. If you do some exploring of the stretches of community gardens, you’ll also find shade-clad spots that are perfect for getting the right amount of sun. We recommend hitting up Arbutus Coffee and settling at one of the many lawn chairs or resting spots along the Greenway in Kits to enjoy the scenery.

Where: From Falsecreek to the Fraser River

Along False Creek

Speaking of False Creek, there are many great sunbathing spots scattered along the pathway. Next time you’re out for a walk, jog, or rollerblade through the area, have a break at one of the many benches situated by the water. You can always plop yourself down at Ron Basford Park beside Granville Island, or catch the views from the grassy area beside Science World (Creekside).

A waterfront patio

We think Vancouver’s patio game is pretty unrivalled, especially when it comes to waterfront patios. Take advantage of a happy hour and plop yourself down somewhere sunny and scenic – and don’t forget your sunglasses! Or, if you’re more likely to burn after knocking back a couple of brews, you may want to consider a covered patio – which will at least give you the option of shade!

A park

Vancouver is blessed with a ton of beautiful parks with access to amenities, courts, fitness equipment, food stands and even designated alcohol-friendly spots. When it comes to sunbathing, we love to make a day of it at Queen Elizabeth Park or Trout Lake, or at any of the city’s prime picnic spots. However, you can just as easily roll out a towel at your nearest neighbourhood park or patch of grass if you’re in a bind for time.

A beach

We’ve covered (more like uncovered) clothing-optional beaches, so now it’s time to go over the rest. Whether you’re a fan of the rocks and boulders at English Bay (or just the hot dog stand), the grass-to-sand ratio at Jericho, or prefer the view from Ambleside Beach – there’s a beach for everyone in Vancouver. Our suggestion? Rotate between your fave beach and a new one every week.
