7 new restaurants around Vancouver to try out this weekend

So we were doing a little review of July, and it turns out a ton of new restaurants have opened around the city over the past few weeks. Well, we love food, so of course, we needed to do a roundup of great new restaurants in Vancouver to try out soon. Luckily, there are a bunch of options.

Here are 7 new restaurants to try out in Vancouver soon.

Do Chay Yaletown

A Yaletown location of the beloved Kingsway spot is opening up this weekend! Specializing in vegetarian and vegan eats, Do Chay blends traditional Vietnamese dishes with a few modern flairs. The end result? A meal that is as homestyle of fine dining as you’d like.

When: Opens on Saturday, August 1
Where: 1269 Hamilton Street

Straight & Marrow

This is the new spot that has taken over Bistro Wagon Rouge. Straight & Marrow has picked an interesting niche to go after- modern Asian eats that emphasize a nose to tail cooking philosophy. Frankly, we can’t wait to see what some of the specials are here.

When: Already open!
Where: 1869 Powell Street

The Roost

We have to give props to anyone bringing more fried chicken to Vancouver. The Roost has landed in the West End and is offering a Southern-style recipe to sink your teeth into. We’re calling this a must-try spot if only so we can see where it will land in your personal ranking.

When: Mon-Thurs, 12 pm-10 pm, Fri-Sat 12 am-Midnight, Sun 12 am-9 pm
Where: 1037 Denman Street

Potluck Hawker Eatery

This new venture from chef Justin Cheung (Longtail, Freebird) is doing delicious Southeast Asian street food. We’re talking Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, and more. This is the perfect choice for when you have a vague idea of the cuisine you want, but can’t nail down a dish.

When: Tuesday to Sunday, 11:30AM-2:30PM/5:30PM-9:30PM
Where: 3424 Cambie Street

Marukatsu Pop-Up

We’d be fools if we didn’t also remind you that a Japanese/Mexican pop-up has come to Gyoza Bar. We were skeptical at first, but now we can’t get the idea of a katsu burrito out of our heads. In theory, it should be absolutely delicious!

When: Monday to Saturday, 11:30AM-8PM
Where: 622 West Pender Street

Ophelia

Instead of Mexican fusion, Ophelia is showing off the many different cuisines of Mexico proper. So whether you’re in the mood for a few light tacos at lunch or are ready to dive into a multi-course meal with friends, Ophelia has the menu (and the skill) to make it worth your while.

When: Tuesday to Thursday, 4- 11PM and Friday to Saturday, 4PM-12AM
Where: 165 West 2nd Avenue

Pizzeria Grano

And last but not least, Pizzeria Grano. Having taken over the Don’t Argue space early in July, Grano has already become a fan favourite. And not just from plant-based folks. Oh no, this stuff is good enough to satisfy even the most diehard greasy, cheesy pizza lover.

When: Tuesday to Sunday, 3PM-10PM
Where: 3240 Main Street

And that’s our roundup of some great new restaurants in Vancouver to try! We hope that you get exploring and have some truly tasty meals this weekend.
