2 Vancouver spots make Canada’s best new restaurants list

Time to round up your friends for an evening out, because the longlist for the best new restaurants in Canada has been released. Air Canada’s enRoute magazine picked 35 restaurants across 17 different cities throughout the country.

Vancouver (surprisingly) only had two make the cut this time. The first is a personal favourite of ours, Como Taperia. This Spanish bar in Mount Pleasant is serving up some of the best tapas in the city. Plus, they’ve got vermouth on tap. Seriously, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you haven’t already been.

The second choice is Ugly Dumpling. As a finalist for Vancouver Magazine’s best new restaurant, these guys have proven themselves to be a new heavyweight in an already saturated dumpling market. They post their dumpling of the day on Instagram, plus a staff meal available for purchase. Seriously tasty and never dull.

To our surprise, Toronto dominated the list this year, with a whopping 9 restaurants making the cut. Montreal wasn’t far behind either, with 7 restaurants listed. Personally, we think that they just have a preference for the east.

If you head to the island anytime soon, know that 2 Victoria restaurants and 1 in Ucluelet have also been included. Hoo boy, do we sense some competition from our neighbours to the West?
