Get ready for another heatwave, Vancouver. Things are heating up again this month and we’ve got plenty of ways to keep you cool as a cucumber, as well as just some fun things to do around the city. Summer isn’t over yet, and we plan to take full advantage. Without further ado, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (August 15-19).

The iconic rock band was formed in 2001 and has since put out all the 2000’s hits you know and love – from Mr. Brightside to When You Were Young, to their most recent album in 2022 – Pressure Machine. And The Killers are officially coming to Vancouver this Friday, August 19th.

Check out this pop-up shop on Granville Island

The Lover’s Tempo pop-up shop is setting up shop on Granville Island this week, and they have a ton of cool jewelry pieces, homeware, and more to spice up your wardrobe and home. Plus, they’re all female-owned and run local businesses, so you’ll be supporting our amazing community as you shop. The market is open from Monday, August 15th to Sunday, August 21st from 10 am to 5 pm.

Ride the Mountain Coaster

Cypress Mountain’s legendary coaster is definitely worth a visit this summer if you haven’t gone already – zipping folks down the mountainside at 40 km/hr. Add in a vertical drop of about 279m (900 feet), and this coaster becomes fun for all ages and thrill-seekers.

Watch Night at the Museum in North Van

Apart from checking out the showtimes at The Cinematheque, the Rio Theatre, and VanCity Theatre – there are also free outdoor movies playing in North Van for the remainder of the month. What’s playing at Sunset Cinema this week? Ben Stiller classic and iconic film (if you ask us), Night at the Museum.

Visit the outdoor pool at Kits Beach

Since the beloved outdoor pool at Kits Beach just reopened after a season of repairs, we think a dip or a lap swim is very much needed this month. Folks can view the pool’s schedule and book a time slot here.

We know Vancouver isn’t exactly known as a hub for Mexican food, but we’ve actually got quite a few hidden taco gems scattered throughout the city! What better way to break up the work day or end an evening than with some tasty, overfilled tacos in hand?

The return of Twilight Tuesdays means visitors can now enjoy extended hours every Tuesday until 8 pm at Science World. Best of all? Folks who arrive after 5 pm will receive discounted admission! Discover attractions like the popular T. Rex exhibit, or explore new options like the Sacred Journey exhibit.

Free outdoor yoga 

If you haven’t taken advantage of Lululemon’s free outdoor yoga sessions yet, you absolutely should. There are pop-up locations all around BC, including Vancouver, North Van, Whistler, Victoria, and Kamloops. BYO-mat and enjoy the sweat sesh!

Go on a bike ride

Let’s face it, Vancouver’s cycling scene is second to none. From quick trips to full-day expeditions, there are plenty of routes to choose from in and around the city. Grab your bike and take a leisurely ride through Stanley Park or hit up the Falsecreek seawall after work to enjoy the sunset.
