What a year it’s been for sports, a tumultuous Stanley Cup, the Blue Jays finally returning, and of course, Seattle getting its own NHL team. But what about hockey in our own fine nation? Well, get pumped because the NHL draft is coming back to Canada next year.
Montreal will host the NHL draft in person marking two years since the 2020 draft was moved to a virtual format because of the pandemic. The draft will happen at the Bell Centre and will begin with the first round on July 7th, 2022 followed by rounds two through seven the next day. You know the drill.

The 2022 draft will be the 27th time Montreal has hosted and the first since 2009 so it’s definitely been a minute. So if you’ve been meaning to take a trip to Montreal, heading to the city during the draft might just be a perfect time. Think about it, hot weather, hockey, great food, what more can you ask for?
While no one knows which NHL team will pick first, the top prospects right now are Matthew Savoie on the Winnipeg Ice in the WHL, Shane Wright on the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL, and Finnish dynamo Brad Lambert.
Either way, it’s great to see the NHL draft returning to Canada and in person at that. We’re sure more details will be released in the coming months as it’s hard to say what the pandemic will be doing in summer 2022. With that, enjoy and if you’d like to learn more you can click here.
