A new Christmas movie is coming to Netflix next month and the plot is probably the last thing you’d expect from a cheesy holiday film. Love Hard, filmed in Vancouver and starring Canada’s very own Nina Dobrev, is described as a “sweet story of catfishing and Christmas carols.” You won’t catch this in a Hallmark movie that’s for sure.

Netflix posted a teaser of the new film on Tuesday. “After meeting her dream guy on a dating app, a writer (Nina Dobrev) decides to fly cross-country to surprise her perfect match (Darren Barnet) for the holidays—only to learn she’s been catfished by his childhood friend (Jimmy O. Yang),” who appeared on Silicon Valley and Space Force.

Filming for Love Hard began in the fall of 2020. Dobrev shared photos at the time on a boat in Vancouver with her castmates Darren Barnet and Mikaela Hoover, decked out in matching Roots Canada sweaters.

On Tuesday, the actress excitedly announced the teaser for the new Christmas rom-com on her Instagram. “Can’t wait for you to see the film,” she wrote.

Netflix loves to use British Columbia as a backdrop for its original shows and movies. The streaming service just released a whole list of productions that were filmed in provinces across the country.

Productions like Virgin River, To All The Boys, Firefly Lane, and most recently Maid starring Margaret Qualley, were all filmed in BC.

Love Hard drops on Netflix on November 5th and we truly can’t wait. Until then, we’ll be watching reruns of MTV’s Catfish in preparation.
