This ‘camouflaged’ hidden waterfall in Ontario is a secret gem

Ready to uncover nature’s hidden treasure? Hoggs Falls is a magical cascade tucked away in the forest and it’s just waiting to be enjoyed.

Described as “one of Grey County’s best-kept secrets,” Hoggs Falls flows abundantly all year round.

“The falls are secluded, camouflaged and yet easily accessible,” says South Georgian Bay Tourism.

To get there, you’ll have to embark on a beautiful hike through the woods along the Boyne river.

The moderate-level hike is located on the Bruce Trail and it is a 3.7 km loop in total.

It is also located on Provincial Crown Land, and Ontario has a resource page for all of the activities permitted on this public land.

Once you arrive, you’ll be treated to views of this tumbling 7-metre waterfall set among the greenery in the summer and the snow-covered branches in the winter.

Yes, that means you can snowshoe to it in the winter, but be mindful that the parking lot is not maintained in the winter months.

It’s remarkable in its own right, but it’s also a great pit stop on the way to the nearby Eugenia Falls, which is one of the tallest cascades in eastern Canada.

Cascading into the picturesque Cuckoo Valley, Eugenia Falls tumbles over the Niagara Escarpment at a towering 30 metres high.

Located just off Grey County Road 13 within the charming Village of Eugenia, this area encompasses an impressive 23 hectares of natural wonder.

Not far from these waterfalls are some of Ontario’s most picturesque regions, including Collingwood to the east, the pristine beaches of Southampton to the west, and the world-famous Bruce Peninsula to the north.

This is a region that’s just begging to be explored, especially while the weather is still warm!
