We’ve got to give a big shoutout to the Edmonton Oilers for letting defenceman Ethan Bear use Cree syllabics instead of the usual English spelling. Not only does it let minority athletes publicly show their heritage, but it looks super cool to boot.

If you’re as big of fans of the new look as we are, then you’ll be happy to know that a local shop is selling them! Pro Am Sports has stocked Ethan Bear Cree nameplate jerseys, alongside a Kailer Yamamoto jersey in Japanese characters. But don’t run out of the house just yet, because both of the initial runs of the jerseys have sold out.

However, you can pre-order both of them for the playoffs or next season! Honestly, we hope that the Oilers continue to showcase the diversity of professional hockey. And with jerseys like this already selling out, we can totally see it happening.
