Toronto’s restaurant scene has experienced a lot of ups and downs in the last few years. But we began to see a glimmer of light in 2022 with new and exciting restaurants opening in the city. We’re taking a look back at some of the best restaurants and bars that have opened up in Toronto this past year.
From luxury concepts to authentic cuisine, Toronto has slowly become the destination for all things foodie. If it wasn’t before, it certainly has now.

In 2023, make sure to check out Casa Madera if you haven’t already. The dining destination serves highly creative twists on Mexican coastal cuisine inspired by the elements of earth, air, fire, and water. Drinks, good food, and great vibes.

Inspired by nostalgia and the energy of the roaring ’20s, Valerie is described as an “interactive dining destination complemented by unobstructed, sweeping views of the beloved Toronto skyline and waterfront.” The menu here features Japanese-inspired plates and light bites, new-style sashimi, rolls, and nigiri, as well as Hamachi Crudo, Wagyu Katsu, Short Rib, and more.

The latest venture by famed food personality Matty Matheson has been years in the making. Anything with Matheson’s name on it is a must-try, if you ask us.

This Latin resto bar opened its doors for the first time, this past summer and it’s been a hit. If you’re looking forward to your next night out and plan on seeing what all the hype is about, take a look at its food and drink menus. Its menu features cuisine from countries all over Latin America including Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, and more.

Having been called the “funky downtown cousin to MIMI Chinese”, Sunnys is another great addition to Toronto’s culinary scene, offering dishes inspired by regional traditions, created by Co-Owner and Executive Chef, David Schwartz and Culinary Partner, Chef Braden Chong.

You don’t need to travel far to experience the coastal flavours of Latin America, South East Asia, and the Mediterranean. It’s all under one roof at Soluna. This spot opened this past summer and has been a hit ever since.

From its exquisite menu offerings to an almost intimate interior, this luxe resto-bar is everything you’d hope for in a Toronto dining experience. Tucked away on one of Toronto’s most notorious nightlife strips, King Street West, is Empire Supper Club, a fresh spot for dinner, dancing, and the best nightlife vibes.

If you visited Miss Likklemore’s pop-up location back in 2020, you may have been saddened when it closed not too long after it opened. But the beloved Caribbean spot opened back up this past summer, heating up King St with authentic dishes, tangy cocktails, and welcoming space for all.

Parquet, which is located at 97 Harbord Street, is a collaboration between longtime friends and is a celebration of their passion for ” reimagined French classics, warm, personal service, and a buzzy, welcoming atmosphere.” According to the restaurant, Parquet’s menu “is designed for sharing, encouraging a fun, convivial dining experience.” You can expect dishes like Shrimp Fritters, and Digby Scallop Cru which features delicate Nova Scotia scallops, in a pool of Peruvian tiger’s milk and topped with thinly sliced peppers.

This unique new spot opened its doors in Toronto’s west end in October. Simpl Things is two restaurant concepts under one roof, with a retro Miami vibe that’ll bring the heat to the city all year round.
