Here’s how to book your spot in the security line before going to Vancouver International Airport

It’s no secret that 2022 was not a great year for airports – for travellers and airport staff alike. And if you’ve done any travelling at all, you know the line-up situation can be quite challenging at security checkpoints, especially during peak hours. Fortunately, the YVR Express app has helped alleviate a lot of the long-waits, particularly when travelling to the U.S.

And now, your travel life just got even easier through the free app. As of Monday, May 1st, passengers can now pre-book their security check-ins on select international flights, even during the busiest peak hours.

Here’s how the app works:

Step 1: Open the app

Travellers can open the app and schedule their time to enter security screening up to 72 hours ahead of their flight departure time.

Travellers will enter the airline they’re flying with, their destination, flight number, and the number of people they’re travelling with, according to YVR.

Step 2: Look out for the QR code

“Once you schedule an appointment time, you’ll receive a QR code via email,” says the airport’s website.

Step 3: Arrive at the assigned checkpoint

After completing check-in and baggage drop-off, you can head to your assigned checkpoint at the scheduled time, where you’ll show airport staff your QR code and be screened by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).

If ever in doubt – just look for the YVR Express logo.

Step 4: Board your flight!

After completing the screening process, you’re good to go! And if you want to make the process even quicker once you’ve landed, you can skip the customs line-up using this mobile passport.

Note that YVR Express is currently available for passengers travelling from the main terminal:

  • Domestic flights scheduled between 6:30 am and 6 pm
  • U.S-bound flights scheduled between 6 am and 3 pm
  • Select international flights scheduled between 11 am and 9 pm

Safe travels!
