Edmonton is trading snow for sunshine just in time for Halloween

Snow has been piling up in the Edmonton area this morning, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel ahead of this Halloween weekend.

Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement for the City of Edmonton on Wednesday as the first significant snowfall of the season in the area continues.

Total snowfall amounts could reach up to 15 cm on colder surfaces in a few localities, per Environment Canada. It’s expected to continue through parts of central Alberta until Thursday morning.

However, according to the forecast for the rest of the week, snowfall won’t last too long as sunny skies are expected this weekend.

What’s the weather forecast for this Halloween weekend?

As of Oct. 28, Edmonton is going to have a few days of sunshine and clear nights starting Thursday night, until Tuesday (Nov. 2) morning, according to Environment Canada.

Following the chilly Thursday (Oct. 29), with a high of -1°C, the days ahead are actually going to warm back up. Those who are heading out for Halloween weekend are in luck, because Friday (Oct. 30) will see a high of 2°C and a low of -8°C, but the spooky holiday itself (Oct. 31) will increase slightly for a high of 4°C and a low of -5°C.

For those extending the festivities into Sunday (Nov. 1), it’s only getting warmer, with a high of 5°C and a low of -4°C. As for the week ahead, the trend keeps going.
