If you haven’t heard the news already, a Vancouver collector recently won a Sotheby’s auction for all the Supreme skateboards since 1998.

His winning bid was 800 THOUSAND USD. That’s right, the absolute madman spent enough money to buy an apartment here on roughly 250 decks. That works out to over 3200 per deck.

The buyer has announced that the decks will be displayed in a shop set to open in 2020, but it would also be cool to see them in whatever penthouse he’s currently chilling extremely hard in.

While the price is high, Supreme has done decks with notable artists like John Baldessari, Jeff Koons, and Damien Hirst. When a single Jeff Koons balloon dog can sell for over $55 million, the price starts to make a little more sense.

Not much more sense though, but let’s face it, the private collection market for contemporary art is as much about prestige as it is aesthetics (that’s our hot take of the day).
