After much anticipation, HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us’ finally premiered this week and just as so many had hoped it would – they’ve received glowing reviews from both critics and its audience.
From some incredible performances to its cinematography it’s clear that the network, cast and crew have really done something special – and as a province privy to behind-the-scenes footage – we’re confident the best is yet to come.
Filmed entirely in Alberta, The Last Of Us stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as a hardened smuggler tasked with escorting a young girl (Bella Ramsey) across post-apocalyptic America 20 years after a fungal outbreak wipes out most of society.
While we’ve only seen the first episode, we’re already huge fans of the series – but as it turns out, the love is mutual.
Here are just a few times the showrunners and cast have shared their appreciation for the Wild Rose Province!
While he was a guest on the Late Late Show with James Corden, Pascal gawked about his love for Banff, shared that he had gone dog sledding in Lake Louise, saw the northern lights while filming – and even gave Calgary restaurant Model Milk a shoutout.

An active presence on social media, Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones, Catherine Called Birdy) is also a big fan of the area. “CALGARY, I can’t believe how much I missed you,” the powerhouse performer once wrote. In addition, Ramsey has posted several photos taken while filming in the area with captions reflecting on what a “beautiful sunny cold ass country,” the Great North is.
In an Alberta-heavy interview with showrunners Craig Mazin and the cast, the province was not only praised for its diverse landscapes but also its people. Canmore specifically was a favourite – with Pascal raving about its fudge.

“Shoutout to Canada, I love Canada – take me back.”
This week, in an interview with eTalk, Pascal once again – raved about filming in and around Alberta and shared that the dedication and level of enthusiasm the crew had while working on the show felt “Canadian.”

Lastly – In a short, but sweet caption, Gabriel Luna (who plays Joel’s brother Tommy) confirmed that “Albertans are real good people,” and even shared his excitement about a November Flames win – which we love to see. After all, at the end of the day – good interactions are what matter most!
And there you have it! 5 times the cast of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ raved about Wild Rose Country.
