You’ll finally be able to eat popcorn at theatres in Toronto starting Monday

At long last, popcorn at the movies will soon be served again at Toronto’s theatres. It’s been confirmed that when restrictions lift in Ontario this Monday, January 31st, the province will also allow cinemas to sell food again.

As part of Ontario’s guidelines for larger venues that were implemented back in December, food and drinks could no longer be served to keep people from removing their masks. Even Cineplex agreed at the time that the movie-going experience wouldn’t be the same without popcorn.

Thankfully, provincial government sources have confirmed to Curiocity that the decision will be reversed come Monday as cinemas are permitted to reopen at 50% capacity.

As part of Ontario’s reopening plans, indoor establishments like restaurants, gyms, bars, and shopping centers will also get to open at 50% capacity starting on January 31st.

Plus, museums, galleries, zoos, casinos, and event spaces will get to open back up at half of their capacity. Many of Toronto’s major attractions have announced the dates that they will welcome visitors back again.

The plan also includes sports arenas, concert venues, and theatres, which can open at 50% seated capacity or for a maximum of 500 people, whichever is less.

Also going into effect on January 31st are the new gathering limits, which will be increased to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.

The province has released a timeline for when other restrictions will be lifted throughout the coming weeks if Ontario’s COVID-19 trends continue to move in a positive direction.

On February 21st, capacity limits will be removed entirely at indoor settings where proof of vaccination is required and capacity at arenas and concert venues will be increased to 50%. Higher-risk settings with dancing will be allowed to open at 25%.

Most importantly, however, our buttery kernels are back and you best believe we’ll be taking advantage of it.
