Vancouver has actually seen more snow than Calgary so far this winter

Here’s something we didn’t think we would be writing. Since the start of December, not only has Vancouver seen more snow than Calgary, but it’s almost double! Maybe we need to start a jacket exchange between the two cities- Calgary can get windbreakers, and Vancouver can get some puffer jackets. That’s a fix, right?

According to weather data from Environment Canada, starting on December 1st and up to today, Vancouver has seen a seriously high 51.8 cm. December was a doozy, receiving some 35.7 cm as it got battered by snowstorms. But, January has come to play as well, with 16.1 cm falling so far this month.

Calgary, on the other hand, got only 25.5 cm of snowfall in December, and a mere 3.3 cm so far this January. With a total snowfall of only 28.8 cm, Calgary has only seen some 55% of the snow that Vancouver has this winter. And while we’ve got a couple more months to go, we can’t help but wonder if the city will even catch up!

So yeah, both cities are going to have to think twice about their ‘winter experience’ at least this year. After all, when was the last time we had a better chance of going sledding on the west coast than at the foot of the Rocky Mountains? We seriously can’t remember.
