This Vancouver restaurant is hosting a supernatural-themed dinner for Día de Los Muertos

This fall, diners at Ophelia Mexican Kitchen are in for a real treat. The eatery is hosting a supernatural-themed feast on Thursday, October 27th in honour of el Día de Los Muertos (typically observed on November 1st and 2nd) – otherwise known as the Day of the Dead.

The revered national holiday in Mexico has Indigenous roots, and brings family and friends together to celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed on. People gather at cemeteries to be with their souls and build private altars containing their favourite foods and beverages, along with family photos and memorabilia. This is all done in the hopes that those who departed pay a visit to those who succeeded them, and join in on the celebration.

As for Ophelia, guests can expect the restaurant to transform into a mystical space with flickering candles and vibrant decor. Diners can have their faces painted with traditional calavera (skull) makeup, and enjoy Mexican folk music as they feast on Tostada de Cangrejo and other festive eats.

Below is the complete menu, in case you want something to salivate over.

At 6:30 pm, guests will be invited to take a seat in the dimly lit dining room and indulge in a decadent multi-menu prepared by Ophelia’s Executive Chef Francisco Higareda and his team. The first course will be served at 7 pm.

So, pull up a chair and take part in a revered tradition, and enjoy some delicious Mexican fare while you do. We’ll see you there, Vancouver!
