Shining a spotlight on Canadian eggs and egg farmers this World Egg Day

Who’s in the mood for eggs? Well, start cracking, Canada, because today (Oct 9) is World Egg Day! What better way to celebrate the Canadian egg farmers who work hard every day to provide the fresh, local, and high-quality eggs Canadians love?

Omelettes, sauces, fried rice, baked goods; eggs lend themselves to so many dishes, and Canada’s egg farmers are proud to do their part to keep Canada’s food supply reliable and close to home.

Here’s some food for thought on what makes Canadian eggs and the farmers behind them worth celebrating this World Egg Day.

1,290 Canadian egg farmers

Canadian egg farmers can be found across all 10 provinces and the Northwest Territories, for a total of 1,290 Canadian egg farmers.

Quality eggs

All of Canada’s 1,290 egg farmers follow national standards for food safety and animal care, and work together to ensure Canadians can count on fresh, local, high-quality eggs produced with care all year long.

11 billion eggs

Together, Canadian egg farmers produce an average of 11 billion eggs a year!¹ These mighty eggs feed Canadians across the country in communities big and small.

Couple that with supply management, an important tool that egg farmers use to deliver a steady supply, and Canadians can count on fresh eggs all year long.

271 eggs per year

Here’s some math for you! There’s no secret that Canadians love a good egg, and on average consume 271 eggs per year.² Now that’s a lot of eggs!
