7 Ontario parks with the best fall views right now

The colours are starting to change! Fall foliage will soon take over our surrounding scenic landscapes, and according to Ontario Parks, it’s already happening. There are seven provincial parks in Ontario that are showing excellent fall colours and are worth the trip,

Per Ontario Parks’ recent fall colour report, seven parks are currently showing at least 80 per cent colour change. That means it’s the best time to hit the road and visit one of these provincial parks.

Here are seven provincial parks with the best fall colours right now.

  • Lake Superior Provincial Park
    • Some of the top spots include northern areas along the Trans-Canada Highway, the Nokomis Trail, and the Mijinemungshing Lake area.
  • Chutes Provincial Park
    • Check out the Twin Bridges Trail and Main Falls Lookout for the best views.
  • Restoule Provincial Park
    • The River Trail and Fire Tower Trail are excellent for fall colours right now, according to Ontario Parks.
  • Mikisew Provincial Park
    • You’ll find the entire park to be picture-perfect, especially around the disc golf course and the Beaver Meadow and Maple Canyon Trails.
  • Arrowhead Provincial Park
    • Top viewpoints include Big Bend Lookout, Beach Area #1, or the Arrowhead Lake Trail.
  • Oxtongue River – Ragged Falls Provincial Park
    • Though you’ll see stunning colours along the hiking trails, the best views are from the top of the falls.
  • Algonquin Provincial Park
    • Head to the trails along the Highway 60 corridor for spectacular colours. Per Ontario Parks, this should last for a couple of weeks.

It’s important to note that a few of these parks get very busy and daily parking permits may sell out. Vehicle permits for day visits to Ontario Parks can be booked up to five days in advance, so get yours asap.

“Numerous other Ontario Parks are at 60 to 70 per cent colour change, with parks in Southern Ontario starting to show colours, which will reach their peak over the next week or two,” shares Ontario Parks.

Nonetheless, a trip is on order. Where are you going first?
