The streaming giant’s presence in Vancouver just continues to grow! Netflix announced today that it has bought the Vancouver company Scanline VFX, which it has collaborated with a number of times on various projects over the years. That’s not all Scanline is known for though, as the company has worked on many blockbuster movies and series over the years. Let’s check it out!

Scanline’s ‘Projects’ page is like a who’s-who of major titles, ranging from some of Netflix’s most notable projects (Stranger Things) to Hollywood blockbusters (including Joker and The Avengers). If you can think of a crazy movie over the past 5-10 years, chances are high Scanline was involved. Seriously, their list runs deep.

Founded in 1989, the company was originally based in Germany but has since moved its headquarters to Vancouver. Operating studios all over the world, Scanline has 1,000+ employees, making it one of the largest companies of its kind.

And while Netflix has acquired the Vancouver VFX company, it’s not going to only work with it on projects, nor will it stop Scanline from working with other studios in the future. Instead, Netflix is just adding this company to the $2.5b or so it’s spent in Canada since 2017. And while the price of the acquisition was not disclosed, we think it’s going to bump that number up quite a bit.

Vancouver continues to prove itself as a hub for the TV and film industry, and we’re here for it.
