Canada’s only floating pub is in BC & here’s where you can find it

A couple of brews at Canada’s only floating pub, anyone? The Dinghy Dock Pub & Restaurant has been an attraction in Nanaimo for decades, offering visitors sweeping views, tasty eats, and a relaxed atmosphere to unwind by the water. Plus, it’s set up so that guests can walk down to the connected Protection Island (formerly Douglas Island). So, if you’re up for a bit of exploring – enjoy some drinks and pub fare and then walk the rocky beaches and parks on the island!

Oh, and did we mention $6 drinks and $4 snacks during Pirates Time (happy hour)??

Originally designed to function as a marina, Dinghy Dock Pub was a hotspot for fishermen who were looking to order some drinks and stock up on supplies at their bait shop. According to their website, patrons would order food through a tiny hole in the kitchen wall (it has since evolved, of course.) Pretty neat though, right?

Now, the pub includes expansive sunny patios, a family area, and a much larger kitchen. The pub’s interior retains its old-school boating charm and offers guests plenty by way of open mic nights and karaoke.

Folks can access the pub by ferry, kayak, or private boat from Nanaimo to Protection Island. If you’re opting for the ferry, it’s typically $12 roundtrip for adults (cash only). You can view ferry times and fares here.

So, next time you’re in the Nanaimo area, consider making the short trip out to the floating pub. You know where to find us!
