Did you know? The iconic Playland Wooden Coaster in Vancouver is considered a “Coaster Landmark” by the American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE). In other words, we’re not the only ones who miss the classic, thrilling ride enjoyed across generations of amusement park go-ers. The good news? The wooden coaster is finally back & open to the public!
Following an 18-month, $1M restoration, Playland Amusement Park has announced the ride’s official return.
“It’s exciting that our beloved Wooden Coaster is now open,” says PNE spokesperson Laura Ballance. “A ride on the Coaster is a tradition that goes back for generations in British Columbia, and this retrofit ensures it will be in top form to ride millions more thrill seekers for years to come.”

Over the past year, the ride has undergone the most extensive revamp in its 64 years, including the addition of lap belts in the train to meet safety standards. Built entirely from Douglas Fir, the coaster is considered “a living structure.” Folks visiting Playland will now have the opportunity to once again brave the ride and experience the dramatic, stomach-churning
The ride holds sixteen passengers at a time and features a signature “camel-hop drop” that we’re sure ride enthusiasts are excited to experience once again. Plus, with views of the Vancouver skyline – who wouldn’t want to hop on for a ride??
Stay tuned via PNE’s socials and website for ride updates and more. And if you’re looking for something fun to do at the PNE this weekend, there’s a huge Pride fest to consider!
