Happy Thursday, Edmonton! We’ve been listening to funk at the Curiocity office all week long and are feeling good about the things to do this weekend. Whether we want to check out a concert, have a nice meal, or catch an Oilers game we can! Nice.

Here are 8 things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

BLONDE DIAMOND

Start the month off right with this dream-pop quintet from Vancouver. And to further clarify, this is more ‘dance your face off’ dream-pop than ‘sit in your room and cry’, which makes it that much more fun live!

When: Saturday, March 7th
Where: The Aviary, 9314 111 Ave NW
Time: 8 pm
Cost: $10

2020 Women’s Day Gala Edmonton

This year’s Edmonton Women’s Day Gala celebrates the strength of our mothers, sisters, daughters, co-workers and friends who make life better, easier, and honestly, bearable. In addition to change your life-style speakers, guests will also enjoy an amazing 3-course plated dinner, a raffle draw, and of course, sips from the cash bar.

When: Saturday, March 7
Where: Edmonton Convention Centre, 9797 Jasper Ave
Time: 5 pm – 9:30 pm
Cost: $175 +

Oilers vs. Blue Jackets

The Oilers face off against the surprisingly strong Columbus Blue Jackets this weekend. Will Draisatl and McDavid light them up? We only kind of hope so- we’ve got both McDavid and Korpisalo on our fantasy team. Curse you, love of underrated teams!

When: Saturday, March 7
Where: Rogers Place
Cost: $72

Lager for Lizards

Do you like beer? Do you like lizards? Boy oh boy, do we have the event for you. This night is in support of the Alberta Conservation Association, so buying beer, entering the raffle, and getting a ticket will all help Alberta’s lizards!

When: Saturday, March 7, 8 PM
Where: Rock Jungle Boulders, 10505 107 Street Northwest
Cost: $30

SKIRTSAFIRE FESTIVAL

Started in 2012, SkirtsAFire is Edmonton’s first and only multidisciplinary festival to showcase women performers. Talks, performances and exhibitions will be running throughout the festival, so check it out!

When: Until Sunday, March 8
Where: Various venues
Time: See times here
Cost: Varies per event

Taste Alberta Brunch Buffet

The Fairmont Hotel MacDonald has partnered up with Alberta’s producers for a one-off brunch special. Not only do you get locally-sourced ingredients, but the price point is pretty much the standard for an upscale hotel brunch.

When: Sunday, March 8
Where: 10065 100 Street
Cost: $65

AS YOU LIKE IT

A new musical is coming to Citadel Theatre! As You Like It is a retelling of the classic Shakespeare play with a little bit of Beatles flair. Ok, a lot of flair, especially because it’s set in Vancouver in the 60s.

When: Until Sunday, March 15th
Where: Citadel Theatre,  9828 101 A Avenue
Time: See times here
Cost: Varies per performance

ART GALLERY OF ALBERTA

There are quite a few solid exhibitions in the AGA this month. However, we’d be lying if we said that we weren’t most interested in Nests for the End of the World, which is quite literally exactly what it sounds like. How contemporary!

When: All Month
Where: Art Gallery of Alberta, 2 Sir Winston Churchill Sq
Time: See times here
Cost: $14

There you have it, Edmonton, 8 exciting things to do this week! It’s going to be a fizzy one, pals.
