Things To Do

8 things to do in Edmonton this week (March 16-20)

Via To Do

Yeah, things aren’t looking too exciting in Edmonton this week. The whole ‘shut down Alberta’ thing isn’t going anywhere, and it’s not like we can look for concerts for you. But! We always try here at Curiocity, even if it means going off the beaten path every so often.

Here are 8 things to do in Edmonton this week.

Have a traditional St. Patrick’s Day

Did you know that, among other things, St. Patrick is attributed with getting all the snakes out of Ireland? Forget drinking this year, go to your local park and try and find some slithery boys. We don’t know what you should do with them, but hey, we’re openers, not closers.

Watch commercials… on purpose?

Maybe you’ve been told to stay home this week and have got some extra time at lunch. Well, head to the Metro Cinema to catch a showing of the best commercials from last year, as chosen by 12,000 members oif the industry.

When: Wednesday, March 18, 2PM
Where: Metro Cinema, 8712 109 Street
Cost: $13

Catch a hockey game

Yeah, we know the NHL is shut down. But guess what? You can watch some KHL games on the DAZN streaming service. And, they offer a month-long free trial. We’ve got you and your hockey addiction, don’t worry.

Educate Yourself

We’re not talking about following the news or reading our articles (though we recommend both). Nah, did you know that you’ve got free access to a variety of college-level courses? And they’re created and sponsored by Yale University? Now you do. Congrats, now you can call yourself an autodidact on Facebook.

When: Whenever
Where: Also in cyberspace, sweet
Cost: Freebie alert!

Eat some comfort food

Eat your feelings to start the week off right. We wrote this guide to deal with the cold we faced this winter, but we think the list works just as well during times of emotional turmoil as well.

When: On throughout the week
Where: Restaurants around Edmonton

Or, wait til late-night bites are available

On the other hand, you can avoid crowds entirely by eating at one of these restaurants during their off-peak hours. This guide also doubles as a handy reference for local restaurants that are probably open late on food delivery apps.

Art Gallery of Alberta

There are quite a few solid exhibitions in the AGA this month. However, we’d be lying if we said that we weren’t most interested in Nests for the End of the World, which is quite literally exactly what it sounds like. How contemporary!

When: On throughout the week
Where: Art Gallery of Alberta, 2 Sir Winston Churchill Sq
Cost: $14

Downtown Dining Week

For a whopping 12 days, restaurants around Edmonton are going to participate in a multi-course dining festival. Both lunches and dinners are available, and meals are priced between $20 and $50. Check out the article we wrote for more information.

When: On throughout the weekend

We’re not too bummed on this week, all things considered. Enjoy these off the beaten path options, Edmonton. And stay safe out there!
