Welcome to the end of the weekend, folks! We hope that you were able to make the most of it, whatever you decided to do. And now, we can turn our attention to the week ahead. Lucky for us, there are more than a few ways to stay entertained around the city.

Here are 8 things to do around Edmonton this week.

WALK AROUND A PRETTY GARDEN

This incredible light display at the U of A Botanic Garden has been extended through January! We guess they’re doing a good job of spreading the winter cheer, and we’re down for it. Things restart this week, so get your tickets sooner rather than later!

When: January 14th to January 31st
Where: 51227 AB-60, Spruce Grove
Cost: $20

DONATE TO A BOTTLE DRIVE

We’ll say it- our ‘beverage’ intake was up in 2020, and we’ve got a couple of bottles kicking around as we type this. Rather than walking them to the recycling bin, we think it would be a smart idea to partake in The Aviary’s bottle drive, which will help them stay around down restrictions.

When: January 11th to January 14th
Where: All around Edmonton, click above for more info

GET A FREE COFFEE

Speaking of beverages, A&W is offering one free coffee per day to Canadians at all participating locations. There’s no gimmick here- they want you to try the coffee so bad they’re giving it away for free. These promotions are rare folks, so make the most of it.

When: Throughout the week
Where: Participating A&W locations
Cost: Free

WATCH SOME HOCKEY

That’s right folks, the time has come- NHL games are officially coming back this week. The Oilers kick the season off with a double-header against the Vancouver Canucks, in a unique all-Canadian division. It’s the year of Canadian rivalries, and we’re here for it.

When: Games start January 13th
Where: Available via streaming/tv services

EAT A HEALTHY MEAL

Why not kick off 2021 on a somewhat healthy foot? Treat yourself to a delicious meal from some of Edmonton’s most-loved restaurants. Some are healthier than others, but all of them beat pre-packaged ramen and KD, as good as those options are.

GO ON A SEGWAY TOUR

Looking for a unique way to explore the River Valley? Check it out with a 60-minute long tour courtesy of the River Valley Adventure Co. We’ve never tried it out before, but for some reason, it’s calling out to us this weekend.

When: Tours daily
Cost: $59.99 and up

GET A LIBRARY CARD

You know what they say- having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card! Cozy up on the couch and treat yourself to a world of adventure. Plus, books have this weird effect where you feel productive afterwards, in a way that Netflix just can’t compare. Maybe that’s just us, though.

Cost: Free!

CHECK OUT A MUSEUM

Restoring a bunch of neon signs and installing them downtown was a pretty cool move, in our opinion. Plus, they’d pair very well with a frosty evening stroll, so grab a coffee nearby and make the most of it! Very easy thing to do, and a great excuse to get out of the house.

When: Throughout January
Where: Mercer Warehouse, South Wall
Cost: Free
