Honestly, it’s been a weird fall weather-wise, but we’re fairly certain that you, like us, are craving some of the best comfort food in Edmonton. The weather’s a little colder, we’re a little more bundled up, and it’s time to eat our feelings about saying goodbye to summer.
Here are some of the best restaurants to get comfort food in Edmonton.
This tiny restaurant in Old Strathcona lists their cuisine as ‘comfort food’, and we’re going to agree with them. Grab a short rib eggs benedict if you’re there for brunch. Otherwise, go all out on a croque madame that is truly out of this world.
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10AM-11PM, Friday, 10AM-12AM, Saturday, 9AM-12AM and Sunday, 9AM-11PM
Where: 10403 83 Avenue NW
Our pick for the best cheap comfort food in Edmonton. Everything on the menu here is under $8, which means more options for you. Try the mac and cheese or the prairie poutine if you’re really craving something hearty.
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 4PM-12AM, Friday/Saturday, 11AM-2AM and Sunday, 11AM-12AM
Where: 8232 Gateway Boulevard NW
Obviously there has to be a ramen joint on this list, and Tokiwa comes out on top in our mind. Sure, the classic tonkotsu option is delicious, but you might appreciate the added kick of the black garlic option. Just an idea.
Hours: Daily, 11AM-3PM
Where: 11978 104 Avenue NW
Sure, we’d probably put Corso32 on here if we were able to casually dine there. But we can’t, it’s simply too busy, and this sister restaurant is just as delicious. A hearty glass of red wine, a meat-based pasta dish, and maybe some chocolate budino to finish things off? Now that’s a meal.
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 5PM-10PM and Friday/Saturday, 5PM-11PM
Where: 10349 Jasper Avenue
Much like ramen, pho has entered the regular lineup for us during the winter months. And, Pho Hoan Pasteur does some of the best in the city. Especially their spicy Pho Sate option- a nice little kick of heat inside a delicious broth is always good.

How could we forget BBQ, either? MEAT does Southern-style BBQ extremely well, and they offer all the classic options like brisket, ribs and even smoked chicken. Head in there with a few friends and have a feast one brisk afternoon.
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 5PM-10PM, Friday, 5PM-11PM, Saturday, 11AM-11PM and Sunday, 11AM-10PM
Where: 8216 104 Street NW
Sometimes comfort isn’t just about the food, it’s about the ambience as well. We could fall asleep at the Highlevel Diner whether we’re eating a bowl of chilli or drinking a double shot of espresso. That level of comfort is almost as good as their cinnamon buns. Almost.
Hours: Monday to Wednesday, 7:30AM-9PM, Thursday/Friday, 7:30AM-10PM, Saturday, 8AM-10PM and Sunday, 8AM-9PM
Where: 10912 88 Avenue NW
