A Black-owned Seattle spot lands on list of Best New Restaurants in the World

We all know that Seattle has a pretty spectacular culinary scene. Despite the pandemic, restaurants in the city have seemed to get better and better. This has landed Communion a spot on Conde Nast’s “Best New Restaurants in the World: 2021 Hot List“. Looks like it’s time to give them a try.

If you’re unfamiliar with Communion it’s a relatively new spot in the Seattle scene. The restaurant opened in November 2020 and has already shot to worldwide recognition. And that’s because of owner Chef Kristi Brown’s amazing culinary sense and work. Beyond her new restaurant, you probably know from her decades of catering in Seattle and “That Brown Girl Cooks!“.

What sets Communion apart is its mission which is “to foster community through the cultivation of fresh food and fine cooking”. The menu not only brings people together through the act of eating but also through culture by honoring Black, Asian, and East African dishes and culinary traditions. This blend has created a unique and delicious menu that has secured Communion a spot in Seattle’s list of culinary geniuses.

It’s also worth mentioning the physical significance of the restaurant. As a Black-owned business, the restaurant is located on the former site of the PNW’s first Black-owned bank as well being in the historically Black Central District neighborhood. And this honor is a huge win for the spot after a tumultuous year.
