Washington state is on track to fully reopen by the end of June

It feels crazy to say this but the end is finally near. Yesterday Governor Jay Inslee announced that Washington is on track to fully reopen by June 30th. This news almost feels too good to be true but boy oh boy are we keeping our fingers crossed. Keep on reading to find out the details.

This change in policy from Governor Jay Inslee comes after the state has seen a fairly steep decline in both COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. This decline correlates with the number of Washingtonians getting vaccinated and is yet another reason to get your vaccine if you haven’t already. Presently 57% of Washingtonians 16 and older have one shot while 43.7% are fully vaccinated.

And what this reopening is counting on is that 70% of the state will have begun their vaccination process. Because once that goal is hit, reopening can begin. So that means if the state hits 70% before June 30th, we could all be looking at an even earlier reopening.

You’re probably wondering what reopening entails and essentially it’s returning to life as “normal”. Basically, full reopening means you’ll be able to enjoy public spaces, like restaurants, movie theaters, and more at 100% capacity. But with all this in mind, the state of emergency in Washington will not end as the virus is not over, things are simply changing.

It’s also important to note that if ICU capacities reach 90% the state could see another lockdown. But the good news is that vaccination restrictions are nearly non-existent these days. And that means you can go get yourself a vaccine and avoid a trip to the ICU. Plus there are many incentives to getting vaccinated like increased capacity for groups of fully vaccinated people at sports games, concerts, and more.
