One of Canada’s most iconic ski resorts is going to get a major upgrade, thanks to a huge investment from Vail Resorts. Yesterday, it was announced that both a new gondola and a chairlift will be coming to the Creekside area of Whistler mountain, greatly increasing capacity. Here’s the scoop!

First up, the current Creekside Gondola, which has a capacity of 6 riders, will be replaced by a high-speed 8-person gondola. This change will allow for up to 35% higher capacity getting up the mountain, thanks to the extra space and the speed.

And right alongside that, the Big Red Express is getting replaced as well. There, the 4-person high-speed chair will be bumped up to 6 people, meaning a 30% or so increase in capacity. Basically, they’re making the original area of Whistler mountain that much easier to manage.

This is a drop in the bucket for Vail Resorts’ overall plan, though. The company plans to replace 19 lifts across 14 resorts in the coming years, and the price tag will be over $300M. Hey, as long as it’s easier for us to ski our favourite resort in Canada, we’re happy with it.

Don’t worry about this season either- the changes will happen before the start of the 2022-2023 season!
