10 of the best things to do in Vancouver this week (Aug 30-Sep 3)

Welcome to the start of a new week, Vancouver. And, more importantly, the last few days of August. While September is just around the corner, we’re not going to let that rain on our parade. Nor will we let actual rain get us down. After all, we’ve still got a little bit of summer left!

Here’s our list of things to do around Vancouver this week.

Check out Shipyards Live

New for this year, Shipyards Live is an ongoing concert and market series taking place at the Lonsdale Quay. Do some shopping, try a food truck, and hit the beer garden as you enjoy the sounds of some fantastic local artists. And, best of all, it’s free to attend!

When: Friday, September 3rd
Where: Lonsdale Quay Area

Enjoy a contemporary art exhibit

If you’re heading to North Van anyway, then go early so you can enjoy the Interior Infinite exhibition at the Polygon Gallery. This roundup of contemporary artists is all about self-representation, with a focus on photography. Basically, crazy photos that are sure to spark conversation!

When: Open until Sunday, September 5th
Where: 101 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver
Cost: By donation

Go for a run

And do it for a good cause! The Under Armour Eastside 10k kicks off this week, with a 5k option available as well. Hosted in support of various local charities and non-profits, this virtual race is a great way to test your mettle, while supporting the community around you.

When: Starts Wednesday, September 1st
Where: Around the DTES
Cost: $40+

Head to a patio with your pup

Know who else is ready to live it up during the end of summer? Your dog! This week, treat them to a visit to some amazing dog-friendly patios around the city, which also happen to be some of the best in general. Pro tip too- this list doubles as the best places to go dog-spotting, short of hanging around a park.

Work on your short game

Mini-golf is a good option for just about anyone. Like bowling, the skill ceiling is weirdly high, but it’s so straightforward that a total novice will still have fun out there. Whether you’re looking for a date night option or an evening that’s fun for the whole family, we’ve got you covered.

Watch a movie

With it back on the menu, there’s no better way to spend a rainy day than at the movies! We like supporting local businesses, so we recommend that you check out the showtimes at The Cinematheque, the Rio Theatre, and VanCity Theatre. The added bonus? These often show older movies, which are perfect if you’re not in the mood for a summer blockbuster.

When: Showtimes throughout summer
Where: Locations around Vancouver
Cost: Varies

Have fun at the PNE Fair

Unleash your inner child because the PNE is the place to be this week. Enjoy some of the classic rides, great fair food, and good vibes. And, not to mention all the great live music and events happening there over the next little bit. Add in a nightly fire routine, and this is a great end-of-summer option.

When: On throughout the week
Where: 2901 E Hastings Street
Cost: $15 for adults, $12 for children and seniors

Go swimming in the buff

We’re sure you’ve heard of Wreck Beach before. It’s Vancouver’s local nude swimming hole! But, did you know that it was recently picked as one of the best places in the world to take a skinny dip? So, if you’re looking for something to do, why not live your best west coast hippy lifestyle at this iconic beach

When: Sunrise to sunset
Where: The University Endowment Lands near UBC

Check out a new restaurant

Vancouver has a happening food scene. And there are places opening up all the time that you have just got to try if you call yourself a serious foodie. Whether you’re craving Greek food, fried chicken sandwiches, or some high-end French cuisine, these new restaurants are sure to knock your socks off.

Visit the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival

Speaking of last chances, if you haven’t made your way out to the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival this is their penultimate weekend. This Instagrammable place is just a quick jaunt into the Fraser Valley from Vancouver. Wander around the tall sunflowers, take in that country air and get lots and lots of pictures. Plus, this is your last week to check it out!

When: Open Thursday to Monday
Where: 41310 Royalwood Drive, Chilliwack, BC
Cost: Free to $22.50

Alright, Vancouver! That’s our roundup for things to do around the city this week. Stay safe and have fun out there!
