It hasn’t been a great year for airports – for travellers and for airport staff alike. And if you’ve done any travelling at all, you know the line-up situation has been a real pain point. Despite YVR ranking fairly well in a recent Satisfaction Study by J.D. Power, the airport has had its fair share of lost luggage and long security lines.

The good news is, there’s an app for the latter. Enter YVR Express: The free app that lets you skip the security lines at YVR if you’re travelling to the US.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Open the app

U.S-bound travellers can open the app and schedule their time to enter security screening up to 72 hours ahead of their flight departure time.

Travellers will enter the airline they’re flying with, their destination, flight number, and the number of people they’re travelling with, according to YVR.

Step 2: Look out for QR code

“Once you schedule an appointment time, you’ll receive a QR code via email,” says the airport’s website.

Step 3: Arrive at assigned checkpoint

After completing check-in and baggage drop-off, you can head to your assigned checkpoint at the scheduled time, where you’ll show airport staff your QR code and be screened by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA).

If ever in doubt – just look for the YVR Express logo at E-Security (U.S. Departures).

Step 4: Board your flight!

After completing the screening process, you’re good to go! And if you want to make the process even quicker once you’ve landed in the U.S., you can skip the customs line-up using this mobile passport.

Note that YVR Express is currently available for passengers travelling to the U.S. with flights between 6:30 am and 8:30 pm PST.

YVR Express also states that they will be expanding to other checkpoints in the coming months, so we’ll look out for that.

Safe travels!
