Aren’t we all dreaming of a white Christmas? Well, a white Christmas isn’t unusual in Calgary but, just how snowy it will be is the question. This year is looking pretty snowy with a 60% chance of the white stuff according to the Government of Canada.

Calgary has had 13 green Christmasses from 1987-2019, so although we’re in the midst of a cold spell, a dry Calgary Christmas is never out of the question. According to Kyle Fougere, a meteorologist who spoke with CBC, an arctic air mass has settled over Alberta. This means not only is it likely to be snowy but it’s guaranteed to be cold.

A quick look at the Environment Canada forecast confirms this with temperatures in the negatives for at least the next week. Looking further to the Weather Network’s 14-day forecast, and it looks like Calgary will be well below freezing on Christmas day and beyond.

So, while it’s no guarantee that snowflakes will be sprinkled from the heavens come December 25th, it’s pretty much a given that there will be snow on the ground and that it’s here to stay. And with snow and cold weather comes winter fun, so get ready for some great days for skating, sledding, and more.

Remember that if you are planning on going to Christmas parties you can pick up free rapid test kits from participating pharmacies.
