Do you miss spending your Saturdays watching Mikey’s antics or admiring Gretchen’s impossibly long head? We’ve got news for you! Recess got a live-action remake, filmed in none other than our very own Vancouver. The childhood classic is coming to life to see what the characters are up to in high school.

The film was shot over the course of two days in the Vancouver area this month. Yep, 2 days. Apparently, the cast are busy people.

In fact, the whole film was done on a mostly volunteer basis! The creators, Vancouver-based Jerome Yoo and Kent Donguines, were Recess superfans. They put the film together as a passion project, with the production team working voluntarily.

The synopsis, according to the creators:

“Picture 10-year-old you sitting in front of the TV, watching TJ, Spinelli, Gretchen, Vince, Mikey, Gus, Randall, the Ashleys and the rest of the colourful cast at 3rd Street Elementary School getting up to their usual hijinks. You lay your head to rest that night and dream about being part of this group and then awake 20 years later and think: ‘Hey, I wonder what happened to the Recess gang when they went to high school?’ Well, YOU’RE WELCOME, because we’re here to answer that question for you!”

So WELCOME indeed!

Watch out for Deadly Class‘s Benjamin Wadsworth as TJ and Riverdale‘s Emilija Baranac as one of the Ashleys.

The film follows Mikey’s heartbreak turned sinister as they navigate high school. You’ll be able to catch some familiar Vancouver views when the film is released via free stream in August! More info can be found at the film’s webpage here.
