Vancouver and beyond could see up to 90km/h wind today

It’s about to be a very blustery day around Metro Vancouver, following a weekend of the BC storm hitting both Vancouver Island and the mainland. In fact, a special weather statement has been announced for Metro Vancouver, courtesy of the Canadian government. Here’s what to know.

Basically, any area near the water in Metro Vancouver should be aware of some serious winds coming in today. These regions include Burnaby, New West, Richmond, the North Shore, Delta, and of course, Vancouver itself. Winds can reach up to 70km/h, but near the water that could increase to even 90km/h. At those speeds, loose debris can go flying and trees can be knocked over, so it’s worth being aware of if you’re out and about.

Beyond that, BC Ferries has cancelled all of their sailings today due to the high wind speeds and the storm. So, if you’re trying to go storm-chasing around Tofino, you might have to wait a few more days before it’s safe to do so. After all, safety comes first!

For more information on the special weather advisory in Metro Vancouver, you can check out the official release. Otherwise, we say stay inside if possible, and maybe take in the crazy weather from your window instead.
