Listen up Torontonians (basketball lovers, in particular), ‘cause Reebok Canada just gave us a whole new reason to rejoice. The brand recently teamed up with the City of Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation team to identify a basketball court in need of refurbishment and give it the restoration it so craves. Lo and behold! The newly revamped court at MacGregor Playground.
The court revamp initiative works to provide communities equitable access to physical activity and play. It directly supports Reebok Canada’s new creative vision and people -first approach to community, as well as their basketball heritage. The brand hopes to emphasize the notion that ‘Life is Not a Spectator Sport’ and encourage youth to get active and find their passion for play and competition.
The restoration also concluded the brand’s Nothin’ But Net movement that’s being led by local artist and avid volunteer, Adam “The Illustrator” Bosley. Just ICYMI, Nothin’ But Net was an initiative originally started by Adam Bosely and his photographer friend Matthew Im, Summer 2020. The duo would re-mesh the rims at basketball courts across town.
The following summer, Reebok Canada and Foot Locker joined in, making the initiative humongous and commissioning Adam to replace 200 nets across Canada. While 50 of these nets have been sent to schools Canada-wide, as part of Reebok’s BOKS (Build Our Kids’ Success) initiative, the other 150 were installed in person by Adam across the GTA. As was to be expected, the Insta accounts of Adam, Reebok Canada, and Foot Locker Toronto were swamped with requests from neighbourhoods for them to be netted next.
Now here’s where MacGregor playground court comes into the picture. As his home court, Bosley installed the last two of the 150 nets on this very court. Talk about going a complete circle!
The court is now open to the public and we, for one, are pumped to basket our first ball here.
