We know, we know… in our eyes, every Canadian city has a spot that deserves to be on the list. Unfortunately, Time Out doesn’t feel the same, but they did give two Canadian cities the distinction of having some of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world. Let’s see which ones they picked!

Their annual roundup is a mix between a massive, 27,000 person survey and the expertise of their own editors. And we have to hand it to them, they left no stone unturned from Georgia to Ghana, or Turkey to Thailand. But! We’re focused on the Canadian picks.

First up is Villeray in Montreal, which came in at number 18 on the list. The neighbourhood got a special shoutout for its transformation in 2021, as restaurants and bars used the newly available public space to create an urban oasis for locals to enjoy. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the ever-popular Jarry Park is right there, too.

The second spot to get the nod was Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant, which landed in the 40th spot. Already an established community, Mount Pleasant was mentioned partly for its array of shopping options and craft breweries to visit. The other parts? Local events like the Vancouver Mural Fest and arguably Canada’s best-named spot- Dude Chilling Park.

So, these two Canadian cities have some of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world, at least this year. Now, time to figure out how we can get more Canadian names on there for 2022, because we’ve got some ideas in mind.
