Vancouver has always, and likely will always, be one of the top places to shoot TV shows and movies in North America. With the great tax breaks and amazing locations for filming, Hollywood studios flock to the city every year. And yes, even during the pandemic! So, we put together a list of some of the shows and movies that are filming in Vancouver this summer.

Hey, maybe it’ll mean you’ll see your favourite celeb out and about!

Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy

This Netflix horror movie stars Bob Gunton as the titular character,  who, according to IMDB, is a ‘billionaire on the eve of his 75th birthday (who) invites his estranged children back home out of fear that tonight someone or something is going to kill him. He puts each of their inheritances on the line, to make sure they’ll help.’ It’s directed by Alejandro Brugués, who’s directed some wild horror films in South and Central America as well as in Hollywood. Very exciting!

Filming dates: 3 April 2021 – 14 June 2021

Easter Sunday

Starring the hilarious Jo Koy, this movie is about a family Easter gathering. The movie will also feature comedian Brandon Wardell and actors Lou Diamond Phillips and Eva Noblezada. The whole deal will also be directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, who you might remember as the mustachioed cop from Super Troopers.

Filming dates: 3 May 2021 – 18 June 2021

Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse 2

The sequel to one of the most celebrated animated movies of the last 10 years is also being made in town. While obviously you don’t really “film’ an animated movie, the Vancouver-based Sony Pictures Imageworks is working away at this new flick. Again, not a lot is known about it, but we’re stoked to see more Spidey.

Peter Pan & Wendy

The production called Bonfire is actually a new film about Peter Pan called Peter Pan & Wendy. The movie is going to be directed by David Lowery and we heard through the grapevine that Jude Law might make an appearance as the villainous Captain Hook. Now that would be something.

Love it or hate it, this Netflix series with an all-star cast is back for another season! After all, you’ve got Ben Schwartz, John Malkovich, Steve Carrell and a whole host of up-and-coming names in the mix. Personally, we’re hoping for a little redemption arc in season 2, because the premise is undeniably funny.

Filming dates: 10 May 2021 – 28 June 2021

Lou

This Netflix film stars the amazing Alison Janney and is about her character tracking down her kidnapped daughter. Will it be an action flick? Maybe a psychological mystery? No matter what, it’ll be an interesting watch to see what they do with the Vancouver setting.

Filming dates: June 2021 – August 2021

Yellowjackets – Season 1

No, this show is not about the flying stinging insect. It is a new series about a woman’s soccer team that is stranded after a plane accident. A plotline that has always ended well for the characters in it (not). The new show will star Christina Ricci, Juliette Lewis, Melanie Lynskey and Tawny Cypress.

Peacemaker – Season 1

We love some good ol’ fashioned superhero action here in Vancouver. This is why it’s cool that the new Peacemaker series is being filmed here this summer. It stars John Cena and is a spin-off of the super-popular Suicide Squad films.

Superman & Lois – Season 1

Yes, believe it or not, we’re getting another story about Superman. And yes, it’s filming in Vancouver this summer. Like the title suggests, this show is focused on Lois Lane and Superman and their life as parents. Should be an interesting spin on the series.

Snowpiercer – Season 3

If you’ve seen the Bong Joon-Ho film version (which we highly suggest you do!), you should check out the new Netflix adaption of the original French graphic novel. If you’re unfamiliar, the show follows the last remaining people on Earth who are on a train that is travelling around the world. The show stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs.

Well, if you’re a keen-eyed celeb spotter, or you just like to know what’s going on in the city, we hope this list helped you out. There’s always something interesting filming in Vancouver, and we’re happy to let you know about some of the standouts!
