And the award goes to: These Alberta-shot TV shows could win big at the 2024 Golden Globes

Award season is here and Alberta-shot TV shows are getting some serious recognition!

Nominated for several Golden Globes, The Last Of Us will go head-to-head against some major players including Succession, The Crown and The Morning Show for Best Television Series – Drama.

Stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay could also walk away with an award for their performances in the show, despite being named alongside industry legends like Helen Mirren (1923) and Brian Cox (Succession.)

In addition, Fargo could score a trophy or two for Best Limited Series, Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series (Jon Hamm) and Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series (Juno Temple).

Both shows were filmed in Calgary, Edmonton and its surrounding areas over the last few years, with cast and showrunners affectionately remembering their time in Wild Rose Country on the Red Carpet and during late-night show interviews.

Of course, these aren’t the only ties that Canada has to this year’s Golden Globes!

Northern icons Martin Short (Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy) Ryan Gosling (Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture) and Robbie Robertson (Best Original Score, Motion Picture) are also up for their work on Only Murders in the Building, Barbie and Killers of the Flower Moon – respectfully.

Want to see who takes the cake?

The 81st Golden Globes will air live on CBS and can be streamed on Paramount+ or the CBS app on Sunday, January 7th, 2024.

It will be a long one so order a pizza, place your bets on Fargo and The Last Of Us, then get comfortable before tuning in between 5 pm and 8 pm PT.

Happy watching and good luck to the above nominees! To see the full list of potential winners visit their website here.

Until then, we’ll be on the edge of our seats.
