Banff is known for its stunning mountain views, but after sunset, the town has another side to explore. In the spirit of spooky season, there’s no better time to learn about the town’s eerie history and local legends.
The Banff Ghost Walk takes you through downtown after dark, with a guide sharing tales of haunted hotels and some of the area’s most chilling stories.
So if you’re curious about Banff’s haunted past and want to see the town from a different perspective, here’s everything you need to know about the evening tour.
During the walk, you’ll stop at historic locations around downtown Banff while your guide shares stories of supposedly haunted hotels and lesser-known tales of the Bow Valley.
According to organizers, the tour takes place entirely outdoors, and the route covers approximately three kilometres along mostly flat paved pathways.
Groups are limited to 20 guests per guide, so you can ask questions and hear the stories in a more intimate setting as you explore the town.
The tour operates daily from May through November, with departures at 7 p.m. each evening and wraps up around 8:40 p.m.
Organizers say you’ll want to arrive by 6:45 p.m. to check in before the tour begins.
The meeting point is the patio at the Banff Good Earth Coffeehouse in downtown Banff. Your guide will wear a black T-shirt with the Banff Canmore Ghost Walks logo, and a flag near the entrance will help you find the group.
Adult tickets cost $38.99, while children’s tickets cost $29.99. Your ticket includes the guided walking tour and an interpretive guide.
If your plans change, the tour’s standard cancellation policy lets you change your booking or receive a refund up to 24 hours before departure.
The Banff Ghost Walk runs rain or shine, so dress for the weather. Warm layers are always a good idea, especially since the temperatures can drop after dark.
When you arrive, you’ll also need to sign a waiver, and a parent or guardian must complete one for anyone under 18.
The tour needs at least four participants to run, so organizers recommend calling two hours before departure to confirm that the minimum number of guests has been met.
If you’re heading to the mountains this fall and have done all the usual hiking and sightseeing, there’s still another side of Banff to discover after dark.
When: Running daily until Monday, Nov. 30, 2026
Time: 7 p.m.
Where: Starts at Banff Good Earth Coffeehouse – 333 Banff Ave., Banff, Alta.
Cost: Adult: $38.99; Child: $29.99
