Edmonton just got the coziest bookstore with loads of new and used reads

Second Shelf Books just held its grand opening weekend, and this all-new independent bookstore is officially open for business in Edmonton.

Edmonton’s newest bookstore is now open in the French Quarter, offering shelves upon shelves of new and used reads to explore. Whether it’s fantasy, non-fiction, sci-fi, or something completely different, this spot will have loads of titles to delve into every day.

For the book lovers in your life, Second Shelf Books is definitely a spot you’ll want to check out soon.

The story behind Second Shelf Books

The bookstore honors owner Misty‘s late brother, Noah, who passed away earlier this year.

According to Second Shelf Books’ website, reading was a large part of Noah and Misty’s relationship. He’d encouraged her to “own a bookstore, to fill it with the stories they loved and to share the love of reading with others.” He even said that if he won the lottery, he would buy Misty her own bookstore.

Following his passing, Misty decided to honour Noah by opening a new bookstore in his memory. The name, Second Shelf Books, also honours Noah as the second child, the “second shelf on the family of five’s bookcase.”

What can I find at Second Shelf Books?

Second Shelf Books stocks a large quantity of new and used books across a variety of different genres. In the future, you can expect book-related events and even a book club for visitors to join.

In addition to the physical storefront, you can also purchase books from Second Shelf online. If you’re outside the Edmonton area, no worries! The store ships all across Canada.

The bookstore also buys books by appointment only. For those who want to trade used books for store credit, you can find all the details and the online form on the bookstore’s website.

Second Shelf doesn’t just sell books, though; you can also find puzzles and games, stuffed animals, stationery supplies, and more.

So, if you’re looking for your next read or want to add to your own growing shelf, this new spot is definitely worth checking out. Thanks to Second Shelf Books, supporting local just got a whole lot easier.
