Amherst Island 

We’ve got the best destination for your next weekend adventure! Amherst Island can easily be described as picture-perfect, and it’s home to a little hamlet that you simply have to see.

Known as the “gem of Lake Ontario,” the island is part of Loyalist Township in Lennox and Addington County and it’s accessible by the Frontenac II ferry from Millhaven.

When you disembark from the ferry, you’ll be right in the heart of the Stella Ferry Wharf, with stunning views and easy access to the island’s beaches, docks, and parks.

Flowerpot Island

Flowerpot Island on the Georgian Bay is among the most popular in Ontario. It’s picturesque stone structures line the beach and resemble flower pots. The pillars were naturally formed and tower high above the shoreline.

Georgian Bay Islands National Park

What if we told you that you can go island-hopping at Georgian Bay Islands National Park, and it’s just two hours north of Toronto? Explore over 60 islands that make up this wonderful destination this season.

Here you’ll get to explore the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, as you venture through its 63 islands and inlets, according to the Global Alliance of National Parks.

Manitoulin Island 

Manitoulin Island is the world’s largest freshwater island and “northern Ontario’s best-kept secret,” according to its website.

It’s a tourist attraction in any season but it’s a must as the weather gets warmer.

Pelee Island

Pelee Island is known as Canada’s southernmost populated island, and is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and rare nature sightings. The quiet and friendly island is a fun filled adventure in the summer, as you will get to enjoy the pristine Lake Erie waters and lush trails at their peek.

The island is also home to a marina and campground, as well as shops, restaurants, galleries, and a performing arts venue.

Peche Island

Peche Island is a cute spot you can get to if you’re in the Windsor area.

The island lies 330 metres off the Detroit River shoreline at the eastern edge of Windsor and features rustic walking trails, docking facilities and more.

Petrie Island Beach

Beach season is in full swing, and our province is full of sandy shorelines to explore. If you’re looking for a new hot spot to cross off your list this summer, Petrie Island is a must-visit.

Located in the Ottawa region of Orléans, this island is home to two beaches that stay popular all summer long for their pristine white sand and calm swimmable waters.

In addition to swimming and sunbathing, visitors can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and wildlife watching. The island is home to turtles, birds, and wildflowers.

St. Joseph Island

Located in the channel between Lake Huron and Lake Superior, St. Joseph Island is a little slice of paradise.

There are multiple parks and beaches on the island, including Women’s Institute Park which has floating docks, a sandy shoreline, and picnic shelters.

Richards Landing is the main part of town with a full-service marina and a shoreline boardwalk, with plenty of places to stop for food and drinks along the way.

Thousand Islands

Go Island hopping by kayak, canoe, or paddleboard within Thousand Islands National Park. It’s a true adventure for nature lovers as you can explore all the islands in the area.

There’s something fascinating to see around every corner, including sunken ships, historic castles, and maybe a family of turtles or a bald eagle.

Wolfe Island

If you happen to find yourself in Ontario’s Limestone city, you may be curious to know more about what else lies across Lake Ontario.

Though of course, that’s where you’ll find the first island of the world-renowned Thousand Islands, located just at the entrance of the St Lawrence River.

With a quick ferry ride, head over and enjoy Wolfe Island’s bountiful nature, secluded beach and small village.

Visitors are also encouraged to leave their cars on the mainland and bike from the ferry terminal to the beach along the 1.3 km nature trail when they arrive on Wolfe Island.
