Perhaps one of your New Year’s resolutions was starting a new exercise regime or sticking to an old one. Whatever the case may be, it looks like Seattleites are doing pretty dang well when it comes to staying fit. In fact, our city just ranked as one of the fittest cities in the nation. Let’s get into the details.

This new ranking comes from The American Fitness Index, a ranking of America’s 100 largest cities. These cities are places that celebrate healthy, active lifestyles, and cities with high scores are considered to have strong community fitness and therefore strong personal fitness.

These are the top 10 fittest cities in America.

1. Arlington, Virginia
2. Madison, Wisconsin
3. Minneapolis, Minnesota
4. Washington, D.C.
5. Seattle, Washington
6. Irvine, California
7. Portland, Oregon
8. St. Paul, Minnesota
9. Denver, Colorado
10. Chicago, Illinois

Number 5 isn’t too shabby if you ask us! Seattle had a personal health rank of 3 and a community & environmental rank of 12. If you’re curious our overall score was 79.5. Psst Spokane, Washington also made the list at number 30.

Some of the factors taken into consideration to create these rankings included the percentage of the population in good health, the percentage of smokers, and mental health statistics among others.
