Here’s how to observe Remembrance Day in Vancouver this year

Remembrance Day is coming up on Monday, November 11th, which is a stat holiday in British Columbia. So we’ve gone ahead and put together a brief list of ways you can observe the day in & around Vancouver.

From ceremonies to museums, here are just a few events that are taking place across the city.

Remembrance Day Ceremony at UBC

Since the opening of the War Memorial Gym at UBC, the university has always held a ceremony commemorating November 11th. This year will mark 72 years since the first ceremony and will bring faculty, staff, and students for a series of short readings, remarks from special guests, and musical performances by UBC’s School of Music.

Doors open at 10 am and the ceremony commences at 10:45 am.

Remembrance Day at the Japanese-Canadian War Memorial 

From 10:40 am to 11:30 am on Remembrance Day, there will be a ceremony at the Japanese Canadian War Memorial in Stanley Park, followed by a reception at the Vancouver Rowing Club at 11:30 am.

Remembrance Day at Victory Square Cenotaph

From 10 am to noon on Remembrance Day, the Victory Square Cenotaph in downtown Vancouver will have the oldest continuing ceremony in the city in honour of Canada’s veterans. According to the City of Vancouver, the ceremony will include wreath-laying, a parade of veterans, the change of the guard, the Last Post, and the Lament.

Remembrance Day at Confederation Park Cenotaph

In North Burnaby, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #148 will hold the city’s Remembrance Day ceremony, starting with a parade at 10 am from McGill Library.

Where: 4595 Albert Street, Burnaby
