If you’re thinking a little getaway is up your alley this spring or summer, then we might have found the perfect place. We’ve stumbled across Sunset Island Resort, a private island for rent in BC which is actually an island… in a lake… on an island. Let’s check it out!
Located a short drive away from Port Alberni, Sproat Lake offers a slightly different slice of the Vancouver Island experience. The interior setting, however, still offers immediate access to incredible old-growth forests and beautiful vistas on the surrounding. You’ll just be chilling lakeside instead of oceanside.

And boy oh boy, will you be chilling. Covering 5 acres, the island offers a variety of amenities and activities for you to enjoy. During the day, you can check out some of the beaches, explore local trails, or head out onto the lake for a little bit of kayaking, or boating, or even fishing.
Meanwhile, there are not one, but two different homes to enjoy- a ‘Main Chalet’ that sleeps up to 13, and a ‘Love Shack’ that sleeps 4. The Main Chalet is a little more luxurious, offering a full kitchen, multiple areas to relax, and both an upstairs and downstairs patio to enjoy.
As for the Love Shack, it’s got a sort of off-grid, rustic flavour to it. Here, you’ll be able to cozy up with a wood-burning stove, relax on the patio, or take a morning dip in the outdoor bathtub overlooking the lake. Yeah, we think this spot should go to that couple that’s still in the honeymoon stage.
The amenities don’t stop there, though. Other treats around the island include a full hot tub, BBQ options, and even a lawn area that can double as an outdoor stage. You know, just in case you’ve got an ongoing bet about who would actually be the person to make it into the K-POP scene. Put on a little karaoke and let the games begin, we say.
Between the stunning setting, the huge capacity, and the wide range of amenities available, we think this private island in BC is a great option for those looking for a summer getaway. Now, we just need to do a little quick math to see how many people we’d need to invite to actually afford it…
