Kanye to Taylor Swift: These pop culture focused university courses actually exist in Canada

People these days have all sorts of varying interests and university courses have to reflect that to some degree. Even when it comes to peoples fascination with the stars and pop culture. The fascination is so far reaching that there are three separate pop culture university courses in Canada. Let’s check them out.

Kanye West is undeniably one of biggest contemporary rappers of our time. His rise in fame has been well documented as has his life thanks to social media. People not only love his music but his larger than life personality. That’s why Montreal’s Concordia University offers a class titled ”Kanye vs. Ye: Genius by Design”, it’s about all things good and bad in the rappers life and his wide spread influence in music, design and pop culture.

Taylor Swift is the newest star to be honoured with her own course. Ontario’s Queen’s University is the place to be for Swifties now that there’s a cultural studies course all about Taylor Swift and her legacy as a chart-topping songwriter. If you need more deets, the class will deep dive into  “Swift’s cultural impact through an examination of her ‘inspirational anthems’ as literature.”

Last and certainly not least are Drake and The Weeknd. The two Torontonians are the focus of a media course offered at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson). The courses focuses on the two artists rise to fame and how their work has impacted both the local and global music scenes. The elective course went viral when it was announced, and was covered by outlets globally.

Next time you’re debating going back to school, just remember you could be taking pop star university courses in Canada.
