Pike Place Market has a whole host of upcoming events to celebrate its 50th anniversary

Pike Place Market is one of Seattle’s most iconic destinations for locals and tourists alike. However, the market’s status hasn’t always been what it is today. In fact, the nearly 114-year-old market faced demolition in the 1960s but was eventually saved by The Friends of the Market in 1971. Lucky us, because from now until October. we get to celebrate 50 years of the market that we know and love.

Pike Place Market has a whole host of things going on to help lovers of the market celebrate. The next upcoming event is the annual Sunset Supper on August 20th which features delicious dishes from restaurants at the market. Sadly this event is sold out to the general public but there are a few tickets left for Market Community members. So if that applies to you, you’ll want to hop on those tickets ASAP.

Don’t get too bummed about missing Sunset Supper because you can support the market’s restaurants any time. Plus on August 17th you can enjoy the debut of the market’s free downloadable e-book, Inside Pike Place Market: Building a Model Public Market into the 21st Century. It’ll teach you about the market’s past and where it’s headed.

Then on October 23rd, you can enjoy the “Let’s Keep the Market STRONG 50th Celebration Event” which is all about the future and preservation of the market. As the date gets closer more details will be released on what you can expect. Regardless, anything that celebrates the market is sure to be fun and also very tasty.

Also in October, you’ll be able to view the new The Fight to Save Pike Place Market documentary at several events and also on KOMO4 TV. However, the dates for those viewings are TBA so be sure to keep an eye out. If you love the market as much as we do you won’t want to miss these events so click here to stay up to date on the market’s happenings.

Enjoy folks!
