Well folks Hollywood North is getting back to action. We’ve heard of several productions that are being filmed in the city at the moment but there’s an extra exciting one coming up. That’s right folks, the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender may begin filming in Vancouver later this year.

This news comes from Avatar News and Production Weekly, the latter being an official film industry paid-subscription publication. Basically, it lists current and upcoming productions. So while we don’t have all the details, we do have a few. Namely the fact that the production will take place here and also that Netflix, Nickelodeon, and Rideback are all involved.

We have a feeling this production will be pretty big because the original animated series was so popular. And right now the showrunner is listed as Albert Kim. He is known for movies and shows like Sleepy Hollow, Nikita, Leverage, and Dirt. But there’s no news on cast or directors yet.

So, if this information turns out to be correct, filming for the new Avatar: The Last Airbender will start in Vancouver on August 16th, 2021. We’re sure more details will be released as the filming date gets closer but until then you can always rewatch the original. Or you can just be really patient and wait. But keep in mind, you’re looking at a 2022 or 2023 release date.
