This beautiful Alberta hotel was just named one of most haunted places in the world

October is a month for sinister adventures, but while macabre effects and haunted houses are all good and fun, there’s nothing scarier than the real deal. For those looking for something truly spooky, there are only a few places worth travelling this season and according to TimeOut, one of the 20 most haunted places in the world is actually right here in Alberta.

From old mansions and pubs to abandoned villages and hospitals, this particular list breaks down where exactly you’re most likely to encounter a spirit or spectre and the Banff Springs Hotel was the only Canadian inclusion.

“A stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is only for the bravest (and wealthiest) souls,” they explain.

“Constructed in the late 19th century, the imposing hotel is haunted by many spirits. The most notable among these is former bellman Sam Macauley.”

Of course, in addition to the bellman, it’s also worth noting the Banff Springs Ghost Bride – an apparition so notable that she was featured by the Canadian Mint 2014.

Pictured on a stamp and a coin, the Ghost Bride is said to occupied the halls of the Fairmont Banff Springs since the 1930s when “upon stepping onto the staircase, she suddenly stumbled and tragically fell to her death,” according to the mint.

“Some claim to have seen an apparition dancing in the hotel’s ballroom or walking down the staircase, as she did on that fateful day which brought a tragic end to her love story,” they added.

Think that’s eerie? Consider taking a trip to one of the others on the list, which can be seen below:
