Food, fireworks return to Nathan Phillips Square for massive Ramadan celebration

Ramadan Kareem, Toronto! The Islamic month is expected to begin on Saturday, April 2, and with it returns an event to celebrate diversity in the city.

Fast in the 6 returns after two years, and it is a free evening of food, fun and fireworks, coinciding with Ramadan, to celebrate the diversity of our great city through the common experience of the breaking of the fast.

“It’s time Toronto! It’s time to unite. It’s time for a fresh spring start and it’s time to celebrate,” stated the event. “Fast in the 6 will once again be able to celebrate our motto: Diversity, Unity and Prosperity towards a shared bright tomorrow for all of us.”

Taking place at Nathan Phillips Square, Fast in the 6 will be back on Saturday, April 16, at 7:30 pm. It invites everyone to participate in the evening, which will include live music, lots of food, and fireworks.

This will be the 6th year the event takes place, after being founded in 2017 by Toronto philanthropists, Lisa and Dany Assaf.

“As we face the challenges and look to seize the opportunities ahead, as Canadians we know we have and will always be stronger together. After two years of being apart, it’s time for people from all backgrounds to come together and share a meal and the experience of enjoying each other’s company in person,” said co-founder Dany Assaf.

Like past events, free meals will be handed out to break the fast at sunset. There will also be food trucks serving up delicious eats.

Additionally, a portion of proceeds from this year’s event will go to Second Harvest.

Happy Ramadan, Toronto!
