This lesser-known village in Ontario has rolling country hills, rivers & cute shops

Day trip anyone? The quaint Township of Erin is just a short drive northwest from Toronto and it is oozing with small-town charm.

“Lush rolling countryside, meandering rivers, small settlement areas, and quaint village settings is what you will encounter in the Town of Erin,” says the township.

The bustling downtown is described as a “medley of adorable shops and lovingly preserved buildings,” with beautiful trails and golf courses too.

The history of this township dates way back to the 1820s, when the first settler, a Pennsylvania native named Nathaniel Roszel, first arrived.

The town’s old-world feel has been preserved to this day, and while you’re wandering through, you’ll be transported back to simpler times.

Erin is not far from Caledon, which is a picturesque region in the GTA that is made up of several charming hamlets.

These hamlets are called Alton, Belfountain, Bolton, Caledon East, Caledon Village, Cheltenham, Inglewood, Palgrave, and Terra Cotta.

Each spot is delightful in its own way, offering a rural vibe that many seek for that peaceful escape.
